My kid get antsy and it’s time to pay the bill. I pull out of my wallet, but the cashier interrupts me “Sorry, ma’am,” he gestures to a sign: “No cash accepted.” In a world where the material is increasingly rejected, I hand over my credit card, and pay with a currency I cannot hold through a transaction I cannot see.
It’s time to renew my professional license. For the first time ever, the state tells me they will not mail me a physical copy. Instead, they say, they will provide an electronic one. Today, my license sits, not in a frame on my wall but in an array of 0’s and 1’s behind a screen.
One of the world’s largest associations holds their biggest convention ever. Like a strange riddle, tens of thousands of people gather, but no one is actually there. It is a virtual reality filled with virtual appearances on make-believe stages.
Trucks drive by invisible drivers, children play with untouchable toys, and tech companies build holographic realities.
The world order is changing: Materialism is waning and energy is rising.
As a neuropsychologist, my work is dedicated to how our brains construct reality. As materialism wanes, people will warn you that this new reality is artificial. They will frighten you with all their goings-on about fake information, fake images, and fake realities.
But we are not in the era of the fake. We are in the Age of Energy.
This is not metaphorical. Neither is it metaphysical. This is neuropsychological.
