The One Purpose of Your Fear

2024 was an extraordinary year. One year ago, I wrote the essay in the The Wall Street Journal. I spoke on many stages, did scores of interviews and book signings, connected with thousands of people, and traveled to Europe on a tour for Energy Rising.

There were exceptional moments, but what stands out right now is my willingness to say 'yes' to fear.

• fear of being wrong

• fear of being rejected

• fear of being misunderstood

• fear of looking stupid

Everything we create that is meaningful contains within it the energy of fear. If you put something into the world—a book, a relationship, a company, a dream—and it does not call you to examine your own fear, it will not be good.

And it will not be good because it will not be true.

The function of fear serves 1 purpose: To divide you from truth.

That's it. That's the whole game.

Truth is the most powerful energy on Earth. And so dark energies—and you can call this whatever you want: trauma, ego, stress, anxiety, whatever—attempt to divide you from the truth of your own power.

Notice how you can have wildly different situations in your life, but the fear—that sick, clenching, draining energy—is always the same Godforsaken sensation.

I'm a neuropsychologist who studies fear and I'll leave you with this: The greatest trick fear will ever play on you is to convince you to not look too closely. Because the thing about shadows is they always vanish in light.
